Attendance in this class is available via Online Instructor Led Training (OILT).  OILT courses allow you to get the full benefit of a live instructor teaching a course without the travel time or expense!  You are able to interact with the instructor and ask questions all from the comfort of your home or office.

In order to participate in OILT training, you are required to have the following equipment:

  • Computer or tablet with high-speed internet
  • Webcam  (Daily attendance will be taken and the instructor must have a visual of you during the entire class)
  • Full audio via phone or computer (Computer audio requires a microphone)
  • Quiet place to access the online course that provides little to no distractions.

Once you are registered for the course you will be sent a link that you use to access the course on the first day of class.

ABOUT THIS COURSE:

This 7-hour course, followed by a one hour examination, teaches students the practical application of the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code. Instruction focuses on the fire alarm and access control requirements for most common occupancy classes that students will encounter on a daily basis, offering insights on common errors and areas of confusion. Special attention is paid to the similarities and differences between the International Building Code (IBC) and NFPA 101 Life Safety Code.

Please be aware that if you need to use this course for licensing or towards one of ESA's certifications you will need to take the proctored exam with a verified proctoring service. Once you complete the course, you will be provided instructions on where and how to take your proctored exam. Please notify us if you do not receive this email in 2 business days. The exam will be open book, using your course manual and is compiled of 50 multiple choice questions. You must pass the exam with a 70% or higher. You will have six months to successfully complete the exam process.

Cancellation Policy:

If the student has completed less than ¼ of the course and a request is made to cancel, a refund is available less a 25% administrative fee. Students may choose to transfer their funds to another ESA/NTS provided course if less than ¼ the course has been completed. Transfers will not be issued until the class materials, including the course manual, is returned in like new condition to ESA/NTS. Fund transfers cannot be made to non-ESA/NTS courses due to the varied payment terms established by the Training Providers. Cancellation requests made beyond one-quarter through the course will not be refunded or transferred.

Life Safety Code will provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Design, install and maintain fire alarm and electronic access control systems that comply with NFPA 101 Life Safety Code
  2. Identifying niche business opportunities based on the most common occupancy classes, creating new revenue-generating services and opportunities
  3. Understanding the similarities and differences between the IBC, IFC and NFPA 101 Life Safety Code making it easier to understand what requirements apply based on the adopted code in your local jurisdictions
