Training Requirements for Connecticut:

Regulatory agency: Connecticut: Professional and Occupational Licensing -Department of Consumer Protection

The following 9 classes are required by the State if obtaining classroom study for low voltage licenses (L-6/C-6):

  • NTS Certified Alarm Technician Level 1 (3 days)
  • NTS Advanced Intrusion Systems (AIS) (2 days)
  • NTS Fire Alarm Installation Methods (FAIM) (2 days)
  • NTS Troubleshooting, Service and Maintenance (TSM) (2 days)
  • NTS Video Systems Technology (VST) (2 days)
  • NTS Electronic Access Control (EAC) (2 days)
  • NTS Life Safety Code (LSC) (1 day)
  • CASIA National Electrical Code (NEC) Review (1 day)
  • OSHA 30 (CT) – training can be obtained through any authorized OSHA 30 instructor. Can be taken as online course through official OSHA provider.

Continuing Education

Electrical licensees, as a condition of license renewals commencing on and after October 1, 2004, shall take not less than four (4) credit hours of continuing education courses each year prior to renewal of their licenses, except that the commissioner may, upon request of the Electrical Work Board, increase to a maximum of seven (7) the number of required credit hours. The following areas of study, with an emphasis on recent changes or updates, shall be acceptable:

(A) Licensing or business law and regulations applicable to the electrical trade;

(B) the current State of Connecticut Building Codes and Standards applicable to the electrical trade;

(C) construction safety; and

(D) any areas recommended by the commissioner or the Electrical Work Examining Board.
