Please be aware that not all of ESAs online CEU courses may be approved by the regulatory agency for use to renew your license. Courses labeled with "ECLB Approved" have been approved by the Florida Electrical Contractors Licensing Board.

Initial Licensing 

  • Alarm System Agents

A licensed electrical or alarm system contractor may not employ a person to perform the duties of a burglar alarm system agent unless the person has successfully completed a minimum of 14 hours of training, to include basic alarm system electronics in addition to related training including CCTV and access control training, with at least 2 hours of training in the prevention of false alarms. Such training shall be from a board-approved provider, and the employee or applicant for employment shall provide proof of successful completion to the licensed employer.

  • Fire System Agents

A certified unlimited electrical contractor or licensed fire alarm contractor may not employ a person to perform the duties of a fire alarm system agent unless the person has successfully completed a minimum of 14 hours of initial training, to include basic fire alarm system technology in addition to related training in National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and standards and access control training, with at least 2 hours of training in the prevention of false alarms.

 

Continuing Education Requirements

  • Licensees

 Beginning with the 2014-2016 renewal cycle, licensees are required to take 1 hour of continuing education in Florida Laws and Rules as part of their 14 hours of continuing education.

14 hours of Continuing Education must include:

  • 7 hours technical
  • 1 hour workers’ compensation
  • 1 hour workplace safety
  • 1 hour business practices
  • 1 hour Florida Building Code advanced module course
  • 1 hour Florida Laws & Rules
  • 2 hours false alarm prevention (for all certified and registered alarm contractors and certified electrical contractors who perform alarm work)
  • Remaining hours general credit
  • FASA/BASA agents

Each FASA/BASA agent must complete six (6) hours of board-approved continuing education every two (2) years to include false alarm reduction (See 489.5185, Florida Statutes and Rule 61G6-12, Florida Administrative Code for additional information on FASA and BASA requirements).
