ABOUT THIS COURSE:

This 14-hour course, followed by a two hour examination, gives students the knowledge to successfully design and install a basic closed circuit television (CCTV) system. It focuses on traditional methods and equipment including analog cameras, coaxial cabling and VCRs as well as offering insight into technologies including digital cameras, Network Video Recorders (NVRs), fiber optic cable and Power over Ethernet (PoE).

Please be aware that if you need to use this course for licensing or towards one of ESA's certifications you will need to take the proctored exam with a verified proctoring service. Once you complete the course, you will be provided instructions on where and how to take your proctored exam. Please notify us if you do not receive this email in 2 business days. The exam will be open book, using your course manual and is compiled of 50 multiple choice questions. You must pass the exam with a 70% or higher. You will have six months to successfully complete the exam process.

Oklahoma Residents:

The Electronic Security Association is pleased to announce that we are an approved Examination Entity for Alarm licensure by the Oklahoma Department of Labor. The Video Systems Technology exam* meets the requirements for the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Technician/Salesperson exam. The Video Systems Technology exam has been modified to meet the Oklahoma Department of Labor requirements and will be given at the conclusion of the course. The Oklahoma exam is 3 hours instead of the 2 hour exam listed above. In order to be in compliance with the OK Department of Labor reporting requirements, all exams must be taken computer based within Oklahoma's borders.

Video System Technologies will provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Designing and installing a basic video surveillance system
  2. Learning about the functions and applications of all major equipment types
  3. Students will complete two extensive practical exercises culminating in an actual system design per a customer’s specification and building plans

Certification(s):Individuals holding a Certified Alarm Technician Level I for a minimum of 36 months, and who successfully complete the Video System Technologies course, the Electronic Access Control course and the Fire Alarm Installation Methods course are eligible for certification as a Certified Systems Integrator (CSI).
