COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course, followed by a one hour examination, teaches students the practical application of the International Building Code (IBC) and the International Fire Code (IFC). Instruction focuses on the fire alarm and access control requirements for most common occupancy classes that students will encounter on a daily basis, offering insights on common errors and areas of confusion. Special attention is paid to the similarities and differences between the International Building Code (IBC) and NFPA 101 Life Safety Code.

Life Safety Code will provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to:

Design, install and maintain fire alarm and electronic access control systems that comply with NFPA 101 Life Safety Code
Identify niche business opportunities based on the most common occupancy classes, creating new revenue-generating services and opportunities
Understand the similarities and differences between the IBC, IFC and NFPA 101 Life Safety Code making it easier to understand what requirements apply based on the adopted code in local jurisdictions

WHAT TO EXPECT IN A LIVE VIRTUAL CLASS

This is a live instructor-led class that is held virtually. This course will allow you to get the full benefit of a live instructor teaching a course without the travel time or expense. You are able to interact with the instructor and ask questions all from the comfort of your home or office. In order to participate, you are required to have the following equipment:

Computer or tablet with high-speed internet
Webcam (Daily attendance will be taken and the instructor must have a visual of you during the entire class)
Full audio via phone or computer (Computer audio requires a microphone)
Quiet place to access the online course that provides little to no distractions.

Please be aware that if you need to use this course for licensing or towards one of ESA’s certifications you will need to take the proctored exam with a verified proctoring service. Once you complete the course, you will be provided instructions on where and how to take your proctored exam. Please notify us if you do not receive this email in 2 business days. The exam will be open book, using your course manual and is compiled of 50 multiple choice questions. You must pass the exam with a 70% or higher. You will have six months to successfully complete the exam process.

Online Courses:

If the student has completed less than ¼ of the course and a request is made to cancel, a refund is available less a 25% administrative fee. Students may choose to transfer their funds to another ESA/NTS provided course if less than ¼ the course has been completed. Transfers will not be issued until the class materials, including the course manual, is returned in like new condition to ESA/NTS. Fund transfers cannot be made to non-ESA/NTS courses due to the varied payment terms established by the Training Providers. Cancellation requests made beyond one-quarter through the course will not be refunded or transferred. Refunds should be expected within thirty days of receipt of returned materials.

Live In-Person and Virtual Courses

Provider Cancellation Policy: Training Providers may cancel a class with at least 5 calendar days’ notice to pre-registered students. Classes may be cancelled without advance notice due to weather conditions or other unforeseeable emergencies. The Training Coordinator determines the conditions that constitute an emergency. All monies paid to the Training Provider for a class that is cancelled shall be fully refunded within 14 business days of the cancellation notice. Students may choose to have their monies credited towards another scheduled class. Students should contact the Training Provider for additional terms and conditions regarding their refund policy. Student Cancellation Policy: If a student cancels an ESA National Training School course more than seven days prior to the class, a refund, less a 25% administrative fee, will be issued. In lieu of canceling, a student can opt to transfer their funds to a future course. There are no refunds or transfers permitted within seven days before the class.
