This course provides students an overview of power and alarm panels. Topics will include transformers, review of power supplies, determining the proper power supply, review of back-up batteries for power supplies and review of wiring.
After completing this course you will be able to:
- Read and interpret the manufacturer’s specifications (voltage, permissible load, etc.).
- Determine the minimum size power supply needed.
- Calculate the size battery needed for a system to operate for a specified number of hours (4, 24, 60, and 72) without primary power, as required by NFPA and UL.
- Identify the reasons for battery failure for a given system.
- Select the proper transformer for power supply, as well as, install and wire the transformer
